“Merry Christmas, sweet girl! Look at what Santa brought you,” I say to a sleepy eyed Hadley.

“Santa?” she asks, looking to where I’m gesturing at the presents under the little tree. “Presents!” she cheers excitedly when it finally registers what’s happened.

So. Stinking. Cute.

I woke up to a sleeping Hadley being placed in my arms by Niko. He whispered that he and the rest of our new little ragtag crew wanted to give Hads and I some time on our own before everyone came in to celebrate with us.

“Are you hungry? Do you want to eat before we open some presents?”

“Yes, pwease. I so hungwy,” she tells me, touching her chubby little hands to her tummy.

“When did you become such a big girl?” I ask, holding back tears. Listening to her develop and grow so much is the biggest blessing. She has thoughts and opinions and a tiny little personality that’s flourishing now that she’s in a healthy environment. I’m so thankful she’s finding her words finally.
